I ask myself, “Why bother?” As I take my pen in hand- I guess my only reason, Is the simple fact: “I can.” “Can what?” Someone may ask me- “Why, write.” Is my reply. Maybe I should get some “ink”- And make it “Write or Die”. I love the way a well-turned phrase- Rolls smoothly off the tongue. I’ve tried my hand at writing, Since I was very young. I’ve written reams of poetry- But if the truth be known… My greatest disappointment is- I just can’t write a song! To put my words to music- Would be my great desire. I foolishly imagine that my words Just might inspire! Alas, the gift eludes me- Though I strive far into the night. I’m left in deep depression- As I ask myself- “Why write?” |

To most, your words ARE music, I surely see it as so. Poems meant to be voiced for sure. I remember seeing a show called Eddie and the Cruisers, prolly in the eighties or nineties. There was a man a rock group wanted in there band who had not a lick of musical talent, just because he wrote exceptional lyrics. I think they, eventually taught him to play keyboard and the band grew to be super famous. They said something to the effect of "words" and "music" belong together, and they do. Even still, I can probably count on one hand, definitely no more than two, the number of bands I've heard who have deeper lyrics... something more than a teenager can write. What kind of advantage it would be to have music and words in a single package I always wondered, cause I'm right there with you my friend. Dreampt my words could be sung out there somewhere. |
