The Voice There was a day once, long ago, I had a voice—I used to sing. It echoed through the long hollow. It settled, dust 'pon the moth's wing. It stirred the succubus in wait. It laid siege to the ocean swells. It gave challenge the whims of Fate— It burned the fires of seven hells. It danced the lightning of the sky, It held sacred the tears of rain. ‘Found jubilance in longing eye— Covetousness beneath all pain. Found love a myth, found hope a dream, Still longs for both now, I suppose. The voice though silenced, it would seem, Yet awaiting the eyes to close. Last petal to a shamed black rose, A fading shadow swirls to ground. Emptiness yet night's to disclose, The voice unheard makes not a sound. And so no echoes forth shall roll. No bells will toll—no songs rejoice. If once conduit to the soul, I die, but he who lost the voice. [This message has been edited by Michael (12-23-2019 09:43 PM).] |

Truthfully, Paul, I do not see writing a book as something I will ever accomplish. I write for more selfish reasons...absolutely need the emotional release too much to fret over things like meter, which I am truly incapable of distinguishing, or rhyme schemes. I consider myself more a song writer than a poet by that regard. When I hear *the voice, I sing its tune...but a song has by nature far less rules than poetry, or at least what other deem poetry must be, I have learned. Even so, such a compliment means much to me. Thank you, my friend. |
