Stargazer Imagine in mind, as I will in verse, All the stars of the universe; Shining bright through the vastness of space In symmetric harmony and grace. Majestic mystery in multitude, A red and blue romantic interlude. Projecting promise with prominence In a twinkling of omnipotence. Look closer now, let's pick just one— One solitary sibling sun. From the realm of time, space, and dimension Unexercised by human apprehension. An incandescent, gleaming glare. A glowing white and red pocket of air. Giving warmth and light and life and love, Gliding boldly through the sky above. Look closer now, beyond this star To where we watch it from afar. Exquisite splotches of green and blue, Proffer such a delicate, peaceful hue. Round and round and round she goes, Where she stops, nobody knows. Lost in the merriment and mirth Of our beloved planet Earth. Look closer now, into the awestruck eye Of a child staring, blindly, at the sky. A billion celestial bodies ablaze fashion A brilliant spectacle of inspiring passion. But how long till he begins to ponder And the innocence begins to wander… …Till the days one by one pass him by Without so much as a glance to the sky. …Till every night in dark discord He heralds dispassion's reward. …Till demands and deadlines of life disperse The very wonder of this universe. Very beautiful, Michael, and very happy . . . just wish it wasn't so sad at the end. |

Thank you all for the kind replies. Owl, just goes to show you how long my perspective has been inclined in this direction. Even still, it's apparent I knew there was something more out there then, even if I was being driven away from it. I may never share your perspective on things, but when I remember to look up, at least I do see the same stars as you. Paul, had lil nudge that pushed me to bring this out. Was always one of my personal favorites though, even if, technically, I knew not a thing about poetry when I wrote it. Feel like I had a much more substantial point of view back then. Sky, indeed. If even a smidgen could be held, how life-changing would that be? |

Ahhh Mikey, Mikey, Mikey - Now that was word beautiful, the cosmic being spoken of with poetic eloqence. It takes a poet's pen to do that and now I'm ready "to boldly go where no one......" Well, you know the rest!. Thanks for the star gazing trek. One...to beam up Captain Mike. Namyh |

Well done Michael. It really is thrilling the vastness of that starry wonderland.... Things even became more interesting when they first established the Hubble Telescope years ago...…. Imagine, those billions of galaxies constantly expanding and still exerting a gravitational pull on our own galaxy... I get a kick out of how some people dwell on the horoscope predictions made by astrologers in verisimilitude on how the stars affect their lives....However, if you talk to a scientific astronomer they will explain that the light from those stars even traveling just over 186,000 miles per second, at the speed of light will not reach you in your lifetime. The light you are seeing from the stars was generated many years before you were born. You did such a fine job on this piece... I really enjoyed the read... Michael There is a weird glitch with being able to see replies right away. Sorry about that. I've been writing again within the last few years. I figured I would read and comment for bit here before I post. I finally have normal work hours again. For me, no form of social media provides the community support and inspiration that this place always did. "Its gonna be alright cause I'm okay with me" |

Temptress, I'll look forward to seeing your words when you do feel like posting them. Normal work hours sound like a blessing right now, glad you are getting to enjoy them. ...and yeah, the community we built here pre-social media days was truly something special. So much "genuine" love and life shared, the likes of which I doubt we'll ever see again on social media. |
