Won’t you tell me that you love me? Even if it is a lie.
I need to hear the words, once, in a while.
They’re most effective, whispered softly, delivered with a kiss…
And it wouldn’t even hurt, if there’s a smile.

I know that I’m a hardcase, and hard to be around-
I’ve been called insensitive, often enough.
But there are tender feelings, hidden somewhere deep inside-
Beneath an outward shell, abrupt and gruff.

If I could be transparent, you would like the man inside-
At least I try to sell myself on that.
But it seems the tender feelings I have always had to hide.
Emotion is a weakness where I’m at.

Three words are worth a fortune, especially if they’re meant-
Even if they aren’t, they are mighty good to hear…
If you say them to me, darling, I would call them heaven sent-
Even tender lies can be held dear.

Beautiful, John!  You are much lovelier than you ever describe and not such a hard case either.

John...Rough as sand paper on the outside, but soft a silk on the inside. Enjoyed very much...Paul
