5%

90% arterial blockage.
Heart functioning at 5%.
Labored breathing.
Fists clenched tight.
Eyes pop open every 10 minutes or so
For the 4th straight day.

Refuses sleep meds.
Anxiety meds too.
When your body no longer remembers to breathe of its own accord,
The fear of deep sleep wins,
Even in a mind barely cusping sanity.

A moment of clarity.
His sunken eyes find mine,
Pools welling within.
The fear is evident...
And knowlede.
He knows he did this to himself.

Doc says it's a miracle he's still with us,
Even if what little time he has left is a torturous death sentence.
I begin to wonder?

Michael, I was sitting at my fathers side when he passed. This was so similar that you could have been there. However, I don’t “wonder”, I know that I would welcome death  as opposed to that kind of existence.
