You think about decisions, you’ve made and now regret- The decades spent together, since first you youngsters met. The children raised, now grown and gone- now she is leaving, too- An empty house is not a home, inhabited by you. But that’s the human tragedy, think only of one’s self- And trample tender feelings, or neglect them on a shelf… The things you took for granted, will haunt you some sad day- When he, or she, has had enough, and then they go away. You stop and reconsider, and ponder what went wrong- Your life has all the makings, of a sad, old country song- You majored on your feelings, and you minored on her need, And now your world is reeling, but you’re far too proud to plead. Go on fool, you’ve had your way! Now contemplate the cost- And meditate on all the things you might have had, now lost… Tell yourself you’re better off, you’re grateful to be free- Another loser in the play, “The Human Tragedy”. |
