I just wanted you to know, I’ve not forgotten-
The feelings that once lay within my heart.
Those desires and longings for the perfect romance,
Long before our paths in life did part.

Yes, I guess I was a foolish dreamer-
A boy who’d read too much to realize-
That perfection’s far too much for one to hope for-
It seems that writers mainly deal in lies.

Maybe I just saw the things I hoped to-
Maybe what you saw kindled your fears-
Anticipated all my foolish choices…
And realized I’d only bring you tears.

Whatever be the case, I merely wanted-
To let you know that feelings linger yet…
I cherish still the boyish, foolish hopefuls-
I’ve entertained e’er since the day we met.

This is a sweet one John! It is easy to look back and see where you went wrong and want to give ourselves a a kick in the pants. But I always get the feeling you did your best at the time. I think most of us begin our journey in love with misguided notions. You are not alone. ~L
