Something Wicked this way comes,
Out of the gray mist,
Unexpectedly,
Cocked head
With friendly facade,
Holds such treachery
Behind eyes
As pale as the Winter's moon.

The helping hand of a stranger
Who keeps his talons concealed,
The giving heart,
Who in truth beats
Only for your downfall.

A slow trickle of drool
Is wiped away quickly
As the trusting soul inside
Slowly turns the doorknob.

What has she let enter there...
The night seems to
Implode upon itself,
Pumpkins shrivel on the vine,
There is an uneasy silence..
As if God's creatures
Have gone mute.

Wise children in the village
Chant in their sleep..
"By the pricking of my thumbs, Something Wicked this way comes".

Wind rustles wild
With leaves,
One last Autumn gust...
A howling prayer to heaven.

Oh this is a juicy tidbit.  Morbid even.  Can't help but think a shadowy figure with sharp talons might not know how to interact with someone without pain being present.  Ever the devil's advocate here.

Wicked thing just might enjoy inflicting it
(pain), but I like it if a reader takes a different angle.

Thanks Michael

I far prefer your writing to Sir William; but I am afraid I tend to agree with Michael. I have repeatedly met the wicked. I work on Texas Death Row.

Thank you GsJohn, I guess the word 'interact'
from M's reply stood out for me..because this
'Thing' was written as an evil entity period,
nothing human about it. But I understand what M. meant & the interesting response, as I understand your reply Dear Poet. I like the feedback from writers, we are an intriguing
bunch.
And..Oh Wow..my respect to you for being able
to handle that job!

Thanks again..

Sky,
Wicked little piece this one. The doorknob was an excellent trigger. Nailed it sister! ~L

This one made me shiver a bit.  Just a short creepy feeling, which is so much more effective than a movie full of gore.  Well done.
