What Makes a Daddy? |

I started up the sidewalk, An old friend for to see. A pretty, little brown eyed girl Came running up to me. She gazed at me intently- Then she reached out for my hand- She said, “I have a question- To ask you, Mr. Man”. She asked, “Are you my Daddy? Please tell me it is true.. My Momma has his picture And he sure does look like you!" I took her little hand in mine- And gently told her, “No”- And watched the teardrops in her eyes And sadly turned to go... I climbed back in my pickup And drove out of her life... I didn’t even stick round- To speak to my ex-wife. I never told that child a lie- Although she is my blood... She’s far too young to realize Would not have understood... A daddy’s more than flesh and blood And traits passed on by genes- I’d like to take a minute more And tell you what I mean. A Daddy's there to pick you up And brush away your tears. To hold you in his arms at night And gently calm your fears. A Daddy’s peace and safety- In a world that’s gone insane.... It takes more to be a Daddy... Than to give a child your name. |

Wow your writing comes straight from the heart love this write- I know its a blessing when my two kids call me Dad or Pops. I helped raised them since they were 4 and 2 1/2 after their mother got divorced from their biological father and she married me. I would like to think I have accomplished some of the things you wrote- thank you much enjoyed. Cheers Victor Inspired-8 |

Not sure how I missed this one when originally posted, John. A very powerful message though. Through the pain of it the clarity of the message is there: the world could use a few more true daddy's. Well done, my friend. |

John...Disappointment is a hard pill to swallow. Your words say it all. It takes more than just a name to be called daddy. Enjoyed very much...Paul ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ |
