The Deep

A trap door in the ocean,
A stairwell in the sea.
From the abyss, I blow a kiss
To endless Misery.
What siren’s voice lead me here
To this well foreshadowed gloom?
What dream, unfound, robs me cold ground
Granted a sane man’s tomb?

The song long ago faded,
With hope, with dream, with light.
Can’t raise the dead, and so I’m led
Beyond sound, touch and sight.
Let me tell you the irony
Felt every step down…
Of dark and deep, and ocean’s keep,
For one who cannot drown.

Will I ever reach the bottom?
Or, by chance, a moral here?
Numbed to no sense, what consequence
Is left for me to fear?
A laughter never ending
Echoing this mad man’s plight,
I reckon hell a kinder cell
Than this eternal night.

Forever within reach here,
Eternity a lost wail.
Silence the drum, I dance her thrum…
Hand clinched tight to the rail.
The deep, an endless mourning,
I finally reach ocean floor.
Bare feet to sand, walk of the damned,
Oh wait… there’s a trap door.

Michael...Very mysterious tale of agony and then the ending brings the reader back to the writers misery. Enjoyed my friend...Paul

Your poetry reminds me of E.A. Poe's poetry, Michael.

I can hear, see, and feel this. Structure and imagery always make a powerful force in your work.  The rhythm stays with me and makes me brave, for a moment, to try it myself.  I don't dare.

Also, at least there may be some light from the flames in hell? Maybe if you believe in it. 😉

Pay me no mind. I'm just excavating here. 😊

"Also, at least there may be some light from the flames in hell?"

ha!  and here I've been wading through with my eyes closed all this time.

Thank you for the smile, Temptress...  I'm hoping things actually get better once beyond this plane.  I can and do look up, I just don't write about it much.

Well, I tried to hit the "like" button a few times, and then I remembered where I am. I don't need one.

I prefer my eyes wide open to meet the burn head on. I've drawn strength from it over the years.

This plane is much more interesting.  It's complicated, but fascinating. Stay a while longer. 🙂
