Wonder seems to me to be- An emotion meant for youth. It somehow seems to fade away, In light of brutal truth. The lass who longs for dashing knight- To carry her away… The lad who dreams of wealth and fame- Both wind up in dismay. The hopes and aspirations- Of those who toil in verse, Will leave us disillusioned… It seems that we are cursed: To be like poor Cassandra- Whose prophecies were true, But thoroughly discounted… It’s the same for me and you. For we view the world too clearly- But alas, we realize- That the truth it is not seeking, But prefers the balm of lies. |

I can be cynical too, sometimes, but I, too, think of "might have beens" and don't believe the goofy feelings are lies. |

I do understand what you mean here Poet..sometimes we tend to look through rose colored glasses in our youth, but I do believe I still see a little glint of Wonder left in those eyes Gs, hope so anyway. Good read.. Sky~ A Poem Begins as a Lump in the Throat, A Sense of Wrong, A Home-Sickness, A Love-Sickness. ~Robert Frost |

John, I think you are right about getting to a certain age and a having a dampening of your sense of wonder. Maybe that is the price you pay for wisdom. On the other hand, you could just get jaded. Good thoughts here. ~L |
