There was a time when I believed that I would live forever-
But I was only eighteen at the time.
The future looked so rosy and my goals reached to the heavens,
And every part of life seemed, oh, so fine!

The facts of life soon arrived and left me disillusioned-
And all those hopes and dreams came crashing down.
The promised land I hoped to find, was just a barren desert,
With shattered bits of dreams strewn all around.

The shock of harsh reality left me in a turmoil,
And only loss and chaos were in sight.
Then I took my pen in hand, and found a scrap of paper,
The only thing that I could do, was Write.

I wrote about the beauty that I would never see-
About the love that I would never find.
I wrote about the close friends, that I would never have,
Those hopes and dreams unfolded in my mind.

I wrote about the princess who hung on my every word,
And swore that she would love me all my life.
I wrote about, I love you's, that I will never hear,
I wrote of an imaginary wife.

Now as the end draws nearer, ere entering deaths night-
I find the need remains a driving force.
To take up pen and paper, and once again, to Write.
I guess for me there's simply no recourse.

You have penned a great one here. Writing gets in our blood it seems. And sometimes the blank page is the only one who will listen. I believe it is possible to go years without putting down a single word. Then that feeling comes upon us and the only cure is the pen (or keyboard). ~L

This is touching and beautiful, John. Never stop writing . . . and dreaming . . .

Life can be disappointing at times but the soul of a poet is a saving grace.
