A Rose For My Valentine When the first rose bloomed it was large, viable, a thing to behold - and yet, I was saddened because the days were counting down and this first rose of spring in my garden was yellow. The next day a bud, almost ready to open showed signs of pink tracing the forest green with it's sepals as they began to spread - Ah, a splendid pink, for sure, maybe more, but as yet, still a mystery . . . and the days are counting down. ~ ~ ~ Today I arose, inhaled deeply of the coffee odor in the air, traced it from my bedroom, down the hall, around the corner into the living room where it rose from a cup in the hand of my wife, standing at the kitchen door, her smile enhancing its draw. I stepped across the room, reached for it . . . Stopped! Something had caught my eye. Something red - red as the color of my heart. I turned, and there, in all its glory, just outside the living room window, a rose as large as my hand, redder than red, deeper in hue than any color I've seen. A Rose, a beautiful, Red Rose, and a sign hanging from the window pane, just above the image that had caught my eye . . . ' Happy Valentines, my wonderful Husband, I grew this – just for you! '
