Somewhere~

Am I a dappled shadow
Somewhere
in the small corner
of your heart..
In those days of wine and roses,
sunrise rapture,
and midnight milkings
that spilled the sky.

Do you feel strands
of soft hair
dangle to your chest,
remember the scent
of my perfume
as I lowered
to catch your mouth..
does the warm ghost
of my embrace still linger
upon your skin..

In the misty hours of slumber,
before the present claims you,
does my name escape your lips..
can you fathom the aura of love
that once surrounded you?

Somewhere..
in the stillness,
a sob softly echoes,
and in your hazy waking
you'll realize it came
from your own throat,
your hand slides across
the cool white pillowcase,
but I'm not there.
