Fair to middlin' of nowhere

Contemplating the cat in my lap.
I thought it high time,
for as much time as she spends there.
Normally my thoughts center round
that balancing act of ears and back
scratched to standards.
One must stay alert to discern
love bites from the bites you get
when you scratched somewhere
a little too long.
When I’ve had enough of her demands
I must hide my hands
or she will snag them with a claw
and draw them to her.
My mission with her,
as she is dancing in my lap
with her pin cushion tap shoes on,
is to find the sweet spot
that stills her feet,
and my hands retreat unbloodied.
Contemplating her now,
her unpurring response to my best efforts.
A penny for her thoughts
if she had pockets.
Does she walk away feeling goodly scratched
or grumbling inside her head the time was too short.
I would hope that they are incapable of such an attitude.
I should hope she’d walk away happy that
she got something of what she came for.
Sometimes it is hard to tell
what she is thinking.
Other times, her tail will yell
exactly what’s on her mind.
I’m not quite fluent in Tailese,
But I'm sure she swished something
to the effect of;
“If that’s all your doing,
then I have somewhere else to be.”
Then she flipped a little gesture
that  wasn’t very nice,
and I know she flipped it at me.
(I think she did it twice.)

Lori, as you can well imagine, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this, every word and cat thought of it!  Please give her huggles and kissles and cuddles and strokles and scratchles from her adoring Auntie Di from across the huuuuuge water bowl!

I prefer dogs, Lori, but then you already know that. I can deal with cats, but not for too long.

I love your story, dear Lori. Lap cats are happy cats. I have two and they both must have their attention.

I always have time for you...

I'm not at all into cats...but know what you mean....don't hate cats, simply allergic, but, truth be told, you could apply this well written song to certain women as well.  LOL
