We Used To Stand In Love

I bled early
this year – Christmas Day
was one of wiping up
the memories
before they stained the carpet
I tried sweeping them
under the front door rug,
but they clung to my broom
scattering everywhere
reminding me
you were never
coming back
and all our Christmases
together
were now just thoughts
memories
swirling like dust motes
sparkling in the lights
of the Tree
where we used to stand
in Love

I bled early this year
on my knees
in front of a tree
of my past
the future no longer
a part of me
my life
just day upon day
without you

I bled early this year
and I’ll continue
to bleed

ouch Jimmy! You're hurtin' my heart here with this one. I think you captured the sentiment behind the "I hate Christmas" Club. I'd offer you a band-aide but it feels more like you need a tourniquet. ~L

LOL!  Pre-color it red (tourniquet) so I can bleed without drawing attention...har-de-har!

I had to remind myself to not let the actions and inactions of those who do not love me ruin my time with those who do... but it's hard. And sometimes the lights on the tree twinkle simply because they're seen through tears.
You've written perfectly the agony of being smothered in loss while everyone celebrates. Applause for a job well done!

Christmas is such a lovely festive time...one may think of warm spiked cider, or the smell of cloves and other spices...but most of all, it brings ever so close those who are gone from our lives forever....

wonderful images my friend.

Read this with such an ache in my heart...
Very well written...so very good to read you once again.

Life isn't about how to survive the storm...
But how to dance in the rain.

A profoundly heart-tugging poem. Thanks for sharing.
