Fair to middlin' of nowhere

Good God!
It’s 2:30 a.m. again
and here I am
wondering what the ‘ell.
Used to be bad enough
when I woke up at three.
Not so bad if your in bed
by eight…
Last night I stayed up late-
until almost eleven.
I’d been Xmas shopping
with my daughter,
then we did all the wrapping after.
It was  great fun
with lots of laughter.
By the time we were done,
I was flat dead
and ready for bed.
So I’m in dreamland
with just me and my snore,
when the darn dog
scratches at the door.
And that bit of commotion
puts the wheels in motion.
He comes back in ready for food.
The cat wakes up in a mood
for a bit of milk, you see.
Next think I know,
I’m making the coffee.
Sometimes, I can curl up
in my chair in a heap
and fall back to sleep
for an hour or two.
This morning, what could I do?
I had words in my head
demanding to be said.
Impossible to ignore,
and now it’s four.
The alarm goes off at five-
I’m beginning to feel
more dead than alive.
Tired but not sleepy…
The feeling’s rather creepy.
I know I’ll regret this later,
when I’m at work
alert as a tater.
At this late an hour,
I might as well shower.
I know that slow
will be as fast as I go.
I have to leave early,
I clock in at 6:30.
Another day in a coma
wanting to go home ah.
Because I got up again
at 2:30 a.m.

Felt sorrow for you getting up at that hour of the night, but your grit convinced me to stop feeling that way for you a little bit. Catch a nap during the day.

ptime,
Don't pick up the pace, rat race will only kill you. Stopping to smell the roses is what needs to thrill you! ~L

Thanks for the good thoughts sent my way Jerry. I seem to recharge on Sundays by sleeping late and napping away the afternoon after having lunch with my parents. ~L
