21 November 2018 Who is richer? A bored millionaire with his glazed eyes in a dead mansion painted with ice? Or a hobo cold, unwashed and shiver-wet on a parkbench bed who, awaking at the kiss of a red-gold sun, setting the sky on fire breathes in the magnitude and magnificence and certainty of the moment? |

Owl, There but by the Grace of God the rich man isn't the poor one. Too bad and so very sad that so many of the extremely wealthy don't take that lesson to heart. God bless you and yours. ~L |

Lori, you are so right about how easily the millionaire could be the hobo. Sadly the millionaire is too blind and emotionally poor to realise it. However, as idealistic as this may sound - and I really did give it a considerable amount of thought - I honestly believe that I would rather be that particular hobo than that particular millionaire. |

A thought provoking question...I for one would much rather be the hobo ~ Money never has equaled happiness in my book ~ Much enjoyed the read ![]() |

I enjoyed your poetry, dear Owl. "Hobos" are usually such by choice. They are seldom wet and shivering because of their unique resourcefulness. Now, 'homeless' people aren't always as 'experienced' as those who consider themselves to be the "Royals of the Road". They are the ones who you might find on a park bench...but only in a free society. As for the "millionaires", they're not as well off as they used to be. If you haven't a billion at your disposal, you haven't quite made the grade. I always have time for you... |

Thank you, Clare. I don't know that I agree with you. As regards the hobos and the homeless, I think one needs to walk a mile in the moccasins of somebody to know how they think and what they feel and how they live. I suppose, it depends, too, on the country they are in. I doubt very much that hobos become such by choice, but then one would need to have investigated the situations of many of them to be able to generalise. There is a vast difference between becoming a hobo as a result of a series of bad choices and behaviour - and becoming a hobo by choice. As for the millionaires and billionaires it would depend on each individual as to whether he or she feels he or she has met his or her expectations as to whether he or she has "made the grade" or not in his or her eyes. Besides which he or she who has a billion, is a billionaire, not a millionaire. One only needs a million, to become a millionaire. |

Owl - That was deep and I loved it, the eternal question of the "haves" and the "have nots", the behavior each exhibits and what each calls happiness. That's a headbanger Owl and thanks a lot for sharing. Namyh |

Thank you Namyh, for your lovely reply. I think it also raises the question of subjective and objective values. ![]() |

Very thought provoking! The more I ponder, the more I want neither choice and appreciate the life I have. ![]() |

I chose the Hobo....never have been rich, except in life events, even in the bad times....never will be rich, except in love, and I loved each one of them, so very hard...someone told me once I loved too much...I've never regret love.... |

Thank you, Ruth. Smiles. Yes, I, too, would not choose either life. However - and I recognise the fact that I have never walked in the moccasins of either - I do believe that the hobo is both richer and happier than the millionaire - in both the moment described in each case, but also in the entirety and the values of their lives. Hugs. happy woofs and purr-meeows to you and Colin and Dixie From me, Benji, Shadrach, Meshach and Abigail! |

Thank you, Lee. So did I. As much as I am not in a position to decide for either of them, I can feel the hollow vaccuum of the millionaire (the one described - not necessarily all millionaires) and the exhilaration of the hobo (the one described - not necessarily all hobos) and if I really had to choose who to be, I would choose to be the hobo. For the hobo, a job and a good salary would change a lot. For the bored millionaire, I doubt that there is much if anything that could change things for him. |

You make it sound fairly good on both sides, Owl. Eh, if I had a wish I'd like a smidgen of both, thank ya. ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |

Giggles, Jerry! Yes a little of the money of the millionaire, and the values and emotional maturity and sense of wonder of that particular hobo! |
