Fair to middlin' of nowhere

I’m grateful I can cook
a turkey dinner
with all the trimmings.
There was a time when
that would have overwhelmed me.
I’m grateful my daughter and I
can cook together in the kitchen.
There was a time when
that would have only been a fight.
I’m grateful my husband can eat.
There was a time when
the throat cancer wouldn’t let him.
I’m grateful for my sons’ happy families
and my grandchildren.
There was a time when
I thought I’d never live to see the day.
I’m grateful I’m still alive and well
despite my less than healthy ways.
There was a time when
living wasn’t what I wanted to do.
I’m grateful for my old Schnauzer dog
that gets me up too early
so I have time to write.
There was a time when
I didn’t have this special time.
I’m grateful for my family
that loves and appreciates me.
There was a time when
I could not see or feel that.
Most of all I’m grateful
that I never gave up
and am happy here today.
There was a time when
I believed the darkness
was here to stay.
I’m grateful for my blessings.
There was a time when
I couldn’t thank God
then say pass the gravy please.

There IS a time when I can only say I am grateful for Lori, the poet.

Your glass is more than half full. It is overflowing. Thanks for the reminders.
