Fair to middlin' of nowhere

Autumn enters in sumac shoes,
wearing a tie-dyed shawl
of orange, yellows and red.
Her under skirt is golden browns
of burnt umbers and sienna
the color of things dried and dead.
Her perfume is the musk
of damp leaves at dusk.
She dances in the moonlight
with the chilling breezes.
Soon her sumac shoes
will tap dance when it freezes.
