Leaves For You, Beans For Me

The songbirds don’t seem
to give a damn whether
we put Tea or Coffee
in their drinking/bathing dish.
They went elsewhere for
their bath or drink.

Now, just to be fair,
we did put several cans
of Beer in their dish.
They loved it.
Kept coming back for more.
Until we finally dumped it out,
put water back in . . .

They went elsewhere for
for a drink . . .
we never did see one
bathe in the beer
,
Curious, huh?

We also had a few
night-time critters
we included in our test.
The opossum – loved the Tea.
The two raccoons avoided it
like it smelled or something.

But the Coffee,
the two ‘coons, I think
would have come for it alone.
To hell with food.

The ‘possum –
well it loved coffee too!
No taste buds at all
in that animal.

My wife, of course,
prefers those dried out leaves
of different colors and smells.
She says there is all kinds
of goodness in them,
depending on whether
you’re drinking for pleasure,
or medicinally
yeah, right,
why don’t I ever see leaf shreds
in that medicinal
Tea she likes to tip?

Me?
Beans, my man,
Strongly brewed,
with nothing to hide
the flavor, or the punch.
And there is never anything
left in the bottom of the cup.

Medicinal? Pssst! –
Uh, well, there is that
Kahlua Coffee I don’t
mind when I’m feeling
off kilter.
And good medicine it is, too!

Well, whichever.
Tea for her,
Coffee for me.
And I still kiss her,
even after she drinks Tea – especially
if she rinses her mouth, first.

And hey, she still kisses me too.
(I have caught her rinsing her mouth
with Tea afterward though . . . )

Now if only geneticist would
cross breed the two -
Cofftea, Teafee, TC or CT, maybe?
Until then though . . .

Leaves for you, and Beans for me.

Jimmy,
What a wonderful poem! It was light and fun and loving. Bless your heart, you didn't break mine with this one. I love the way you weaved love into this poem. ~L
