~~This poem is written about a man I am acquanted with, not my usual writes concerning me.~~

put on a sad face
wring your hands in despair
shuffle walk through life
wear the sticky goo of failure
and shallowness
as your badge of honor

you're where you're at
you non-cool cat

each day
a woe-is-me gloom
before you get out of bed
the world sitting
on your chest
feeding self-centered fear

you will not fight
this stagnant blight

a smile never appears
because your lips
are pressed in a hard line together
whadda-you-have-to-smile-about
nothing gives you glee
whadda sad sack you

a smile would make
your face to ache

a brooding man
has not one friend
goes home alone
muses about what to do tonight
maybe turn the gas on
make love to the oven

easy way out
here is no doubt

a cripple
stripped of his pride
walking a sad treadmill
to nowheresville
with a perverse sense
of the absurd

merry-go-round
soul can't be found

only happy when he is sad
life to him
is just one wrong party
after another
even God has given up
nothing there to save

shell of a man
he has no plan

storm warnings
across his face
nothing makes him mad
there's no vein of venom
lashing out
sex can't even tempt this one

a man of woe
nothing there grows

Wow describes me before the interdiction/ treatment that literally saved me. Brutally honest write reminds me what happens if I pick up the bottle ever again.

Thank you, my friend, thank you indeed. Yes, for sure that bottle will take you for a double-summersault if you are not very careful, and that you plan to remain off it gives me a good feeling. Good for you.

When life sucks that hard my friend, it sounds like depression. When it seems endless with no hope in sight and hangs on for more than just a few days, call your doctor. These days there is no reason to suffer with it, there is too much they can do for it. Contact your local Senior Center to socialize. You have too much on the ball to rot away alone with depression.

Thank you, Lori, for your very informative comments. And yes, I usually write true to life concerning me and how I am feeling, or have felt in days of yore. But this one is actually written about a man here in Thibodaux. I should have stated that fact.

This really hits hard and brings compassion to the forefront. There are so many lost souls wandering around like this every day of their life. You have penned it well my friend. You have a keen eye for humanity and I'd venture to say a kind heart   Thank you for sharing Jerry ~ Alana

You bet there are untold millions the way this "Brooding Man Has Not One Friend" poem cashes in on the mental attitude of a walking, talking zombie. Sad. Very, very sad. Thank you, Alana for your sweet comments.

Yes, dear friend, it is as you say.
Your insight and understanding reach deep
into the heart of despondency. To have a friend, one must first be a friend.
I fully concur with all replies.

I always have time for you...
