Fair to middlin' of nowhere

The six mile road to the highway
is lined with mostly wheat fields.
The early hot temperatures
have it already headed out
and starting to turn yellow
as it waves in the breeze.
In the ditches where the blue
bachelor buttons grow wild,
Redwing blackbirds perch
guarding their territory.
Like red winged jack-in-the-boxes,
they pop up at random,
flashing their bright feathers.
They are thick as thieves
that scatter as cars go by.
Not even June and it looks like July
with summer colors to greet the eye.

What a very-color influenced ride you have each day.  You brought them up close and vividly personal with this great write.

Thanks Jerry. Yes I do. Unfortunately I drive that drive in the dark every morning. But now that school is out that won't be an issue for a while. ~L
