Fair to middlin' of nowhere

We all know of love
in one way or another.
Our first experience
is with our mothers.
Our lives depend
on that bond we make with her.
Our next taste of love
are the first kisses of
infatuation.
For an unfortunate some,
that rush of lust
becomes their alpha and omega.
When the flames of passion
die down they believe
that love has died as well.
But love lives beyond hormones.
It lasts in the lingering
red hot coals of its flame.
As the coals turn to ash
so too lovers turn to gray
until they are no more.

My first experience wasn't with my mother, but I know where you are coming from.

I'm talking about as a newborn infant. You would have no memory of it. If you had been abused as an infant I do not believe you would have accomplished the things you have in your life. I doubt you would have survived to the age you are.
I know it is a sore subject with you, and I know you feel cheated of knowing a mother's love. I also know that infants are hardwired to bond because their survival depends upon it. It is that need to bond that we have as infants that is our first experience at loving
and being loved. Infants that are neglected, ignored, not held or touched, die.
So I believe that at least you started out okay. And I hope you can take some comfort in that. ~L

Lori, I take much comfort that I have an Internet friend such as you. You never fail to come to my aid, telling the hard truth, and I think much of you for the many truths you have, over the years offered and pounded into my hard head. Thank you.
