life is short
no matter if we live past a hundred
that ‘s only putting off
the inevitable
death
we take pills and see our doctors
as older we become to stave off
what is to become of us
our emotional state of mind
and words and deeds
show outwardly
our desperation in looking backward
hoping against futile hope
to grasp the youth we were once
in love with ourselves
grasping so fragily with me,me,me
of course it fails
this backward look
until at last someone says something
which sets our
mindset on the now
the present
the looming future to deal with it
as we should have been
all along
no longer do we grapple
with our past
we do however
understand the truth
life is short
no matter if we live past a hundred
that is only putting off
the inevitable
death
we taking this and that
as older we become to stave off
what is to become of us
our emotional state of mind
and words and deeds
show outwardly
our desperate looking backward
hoping against futile hope
to grasp the youth we were once
in love with ourselves
grasping so fraught with me,me,me
of course it fails
this backward look
until at last someone says something
which sets our
mindset on the now
the present
the looming future must deal with
as we should have been
all along
no longer do we grapple
with our past
we do however
start the cleaning of thoughts
an project them
ahead instead of the foggy past
our minds begin to clear
a smile on our face
when we see the future and accept it
knowing we shall survive

Jerry,
I'm so happy you are still looking through new eyes. I would think life feels a little lighter now. All the time you used to spend feeling bad you now have to feel something else good. And I think a man who takes his sun sets with cheap California Burgundy has learned how to do more than just survive.
One thing about hard times is that they make a great space in us to be able to appreciate good things (if we have a mind to). I'd say you have a mind to with new found peace of mind as well.
I hope that if I get to be your age, I am as fearless as you are about continuing to grow emotionally and spiritually. ~L

Thank you, Lori, I understand and quite agree with your philosophy. It is a new way of looking at things, I've been in the blackness for so very long.
