I Have Lost My Life

if I seem to have love my gravitas
I assure you
it is worse than that
I have lost my life
I vaguely remember when it disappeared
it actually made a sound
yes, it really did
there was a vocal sound of death
I recall it let out an
exasperating little sigh
kinda how steam sounds
then my life disappeared
wasn't that long ago
and I have looked for it, but you know
where the hell does one go
looking for a disappearing, wayward life
don't know
I'm still looking though
I feel lonesome without my life
wasn't all that long ago that it left
and didn't come back
suppose I should've seen it coming
I've managed to grow old
true, I'm not a nonagenarian
not yet
have a few more birthdays until then
I don't think it was anything
I did exactly
that caused my life to cease to exist
matter of fact I thought we were compatible
uh huh
I'm always the last to know
I can't quit searching through my life's old haunts
my stories
poems
stories and poems
cause that's what I do
I'm no raconteur
no, I write my stories
and I am one hundred percent sure
that is where I lost my life
too caught up with my last novel
hard-boiled detective stuff
tough guys
tougher gals
life was mislaid there
too involved with plot
et al
ah
see, life really isn't lost
no
only misplaced
so happy I figured that out
now I know where to find it

Kind of like suddenly finding out what you were meant to do in this life...so it returns with gusto
and gets you moving again.

That's what we all want you to do, Jerry. Keep moving.

Many splendid lines to relate to!

Still sippin' on that "cheap California Burgundy", Jerry?

I'd imagine that would certainly make you a 'mellow-fellow'!

You betcha, Bluesy, cheap California is the only way to go for a poor guy like me. Besides it is g-o-o-d!
