My grandmother confessed to me that after my grandfather died
she got to tell her old boyfriend that she loved him as he lay dying

She was supposed to marry him when she was thirty and pretty,
but his mother was against it... bad blood

She was a woman divorced from an embezzler
She wept saying, "I love you Frank", as he held her freckled hand

My grandmother used to complain that my grandfather
made her make big dinners with mashed potatoes

She would cook away in the steamy heat of her galley kitchen
"Someday”, she said, “after he’s gone, I’ll make cold sandwiches for dinner"

And so she did make cold sandwiches until the day she died
She ate every one of them alone

there is an important lesson in here somewhere...dig...dig....dig...don't cut off your sandwich to spite your face, no....don't cut the cheese, no...oh! I got it!...Life is like a baloney sandwich;the more bread you have the less baloney you have to deal with.
