the flashlight is more significant
than the beam it makes
the scribbling of notes in a tablet
is not nearly as significant
as the poem
ahhh . . . and when she kissed him
is more significant than their mouths
he wrote her letters
using ruled, coarse paper
a lead pencil
those letters were only tangible documents
still . . .
they are only letters
but letters which reveal
her exquisite loveliness
and his insanity
