Miss You Dad "I miss you, dad." The words he spoke, They hit me like a ton of bricks. As something inside me awoke— Something inside those words transfixed Me, for I've seen him every week For going on well past a year; And yet the truth I heard him speak Said I've been anywhere but here. And so I choked on my reply, (I never noticed I was gone); As a tear welled in my eye In realizing how withdrawn I've been for not just weeks, but years. The pain I felt and cast on all, Amounting to but hurt and tears To those who lived outside my wall. It started when a laugh we shared Really caught us both by surprise. A feeling I was not prepared For, as I looked into his eyes. It's joy I know, I've felt it since, If a bit precariously. Yet his eyes, trying to convince Himself that this was really me, Shined a light on just where I stand. How I got here I'm still not sure; With love, and joy, and peace at hand... First time in life I've felt so pure. "I'm sorry that I lost my way, All in our lives that went amiss. Just know this time I'm here to stay. I've missed you too, son, trust in this." A Father/Son connection Michael? It's amazing to sometimes find how it is to share moments, or to have a 'flash' occur before your mind's eye. So many thoughts in your writing, personal and yet shared by many in their own unique way. Touch, but don't look |

This is such a heart warming piece of poetry, Michael. Sometimes it is the simplest of things which will finally open our eyes. I'm smiling. ~*~ There was a sign on the lawn at a drug re-hab center that said 'Keep off the Grass'. ~*~ |
