Cain killed Able
eh . . . maybe it was the other way around
my mind is in a whirl
all I know
evil reigns supreme
it is preached on a daily basis
the great need to kill the infidels
been that way for centuries
the great crusades come to mind
sweeping across Europe
God wills it
the battle cry
of thousands of Christians
in order to
free the Holy Land from the Muslims
these days Allah
seems intent on getting even
the violence
the damn violence grabs me
by the throat
and yes, chokes me up
even fills my thoughts of hate
because of the
slaughter
it takes advantage of
my powerlessness and weakness
sends me plunging into the void which
fills my heart with exasperating anger
the never-ending conundrum
since Cain and Able
or was it the other way around
the shedding of blood
rules the world we live in
Satan may be a Biblical untruth
and the wickedness
lies within the breast of us
darkness has taken hold of mankind
just one more chapter
in the derangement of man

When exploring the evil in the heart and mind of Man, don't overlook the good. Since there are only two forces to deal with (i.e, "good and "evil"), it's a matter of choice. It's believed that God created Man with a 'free will' to make choices from the beginning...and then there was that banana peel to deal with.

All well said in your poetry Jerry. Isn't it odd that people have such distinctively different views on what is needed to achieve "peace?"

Loving Linny Jean is poetry.

Yes, it is odd that people have such different views on how to go about finding peace. Most of the time it is Greed(with a capitol G) which divides us. Of course there are other things, but in my opinion greed tops the list.

Had I not fallen down, I might not have found this great piece at the very bottom of the page. I made it all the way through and found the first few lines and the last few to truly 'bookend' the ages of Man and his inability to respect the lives of his kind. You're a talent JP, you really are. You set minds to thinking.

I've been on this board for more than 14 years and that's the first time anyone referred to me as a "she". I know Lori must have mistaken me for 'Blues Serenade'. Truth be told, I'm a man and I still have my original paint job with a Blue Coral shine.

Oh, by the way, I make it a practice to never take umbrage with someone who agrees with me.

Cute.

I'm sure it was just an oversight on Lori's part, or as you said mistaken you for Blues Serenade.

Ah, that double bladed sword called religion. Does it divide or unite us? A glance at history will give you the answer. I have seen at close hand the mouth foaming hatred of two believers of the same book can be reduced too like ‘Spitting Sperm of Satan’ at terrified six year old's and more.

You’re a believer? Fine by me, but don’t come preaching in my pub where I’ve come for a few beers and some idly chat. Live and let live.

Cari.

"don’t come preaching in my pub"

You don't have worry yourself about that. I am a stone DISbeliever. I probably wouldn't go to your pub anyway after I read this. Little anger there. Don't think you can find one line in my rant that says I am a believer, Cari.

I wasn’t addressing you or your poem personally I was speaking in general terms. I have seen so much of the dark side of religious beliefs and what they can do to ordinary folk.
