Fair to middlin' of nowhere

0 posted 2016-07-25 03:02 PM

In the predawn hours
I could feel the storm coming.
Winston was quivering
and wedging himself between us.
Reaching out to comfort him
I could hear the distant rumbling low.
I drift off to the rhythm of his vibrations,
only to be awakened
by panting and pawing
and then the thunder cracking
right overhead.
The much needed rain poured down.
I looked at the clock
and then at the dog,
knowing full well that I wasn’t getting
those last thirty minutes.
I got up to fix the coffee
with Winston glued to my heels.
We sat together waiting
for the thunder to roll on by
as the rains remained.

Hah! A thunderstorm is doing its thing down here in the swamp as we speak . . . er . . . type. We have really been lucky for the last month. We have been getting one and sometimes two thunder-boomers a day, which has kept us out of the ninety degree range for the most part. I love'em. Poor Winston . . . Thunder doesn't bother Zoe at all . . .

He really hates the thunder! And fireworks!
Other than that he is pretty mellow. We really needed a break in the heat. It is not going to help the humidity though. ugh! ~L

I remember as a kid I didn't like thunder so I sympathize with Winston. ~L

I know the power of those rains, and I feel for you. Strength is just a word that we are all told to have, but it is so much easier for some. x

Over the years I've gotten much better about my fear of storms. And my husband is always up on the news and weather so now I just concern myself with calming Winston. ~L

Wow, that was a biggie!  Comforting hugs and hugs of all kinds and loving woofs to Winston. He probably has even better hearing than the average dog (who apparently has 10 times the hearing that humans do).  I have one about a 48-hour deluge as I have never, to the best of my recollections. experienced in my 70 years.  Wrote it very recently about the Sunday night to Tuesday night of last week.

Winston would be in trouble if it rained that long...we would have to drag him out with an umbrella to do his business. LOL! ~L
