We all have our hates that move us; be it ever so slight as a swat upon a gnat or ever so heinous as an act of killing. Look in the shadows of your passions and you can find all flavors of hate. Some just push a political button to make their temperature rise. Others just need a branch off of the old family tree. Then there are those special ones that are trained to kill and have and hate the weight of death upon their minds. LGR©7/13/16 |

I spent many years with hate, Lori. I have fought my way through all of it and really am convinced I have defeated hate. Then ISIS shows us. ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |

Hate is an emotion "trained" killers don't have. They're simply indifferent concerning their actions. Like everyone else,I know that some are killing in the name of religion and politics. But "trained" killers concern themselves only with 'targets' and 'hits'. Any military sniper knows this and so do their civilian 'counterparts'. Loving Linny Jean is poetry. |

Your point is well made Ari, and not outside my thinking. Not all that are trained are of the same caliber and PTSD runs rampant and under treated. Some police work in war zones and the same would hold true with them. ~L |

After re-reading my reply to your work Lori, I thought I may have sounded a bit stern. Thanks for not taking it that way. I'm prone to 'leaping before I look' at times. I enjoy thought-provoking poetry and such. The subject of "hate" can never be discussed enough. We can hope to reduce it, but it will take a power far greater than Man's to eliminate it. Thanks. Loving Linny Jean is poetry. |

I don’t think the ex soldier who killed the police felt hatred but more with satisfaction of achieving his aim (No pun intended) he certainly convinced himself that his actions were justified but that was before he carried them out. I have no idea whether he was trained as a sniper but if he was he would know that to be effective emotions must be kept very much under control. A sniper is almost never in danger of return fire; he selects his target and waits for 3-4 seconds of stillness and fires. As Ari has said the only emotion he feels is the satisfaction of hitting the target, whether that’s just a target or a living target isn’t much of a concern to him. It’s the achievement which countless hours of practice have prepared him for. A fire fight is very different, a soldier will be faced with return fire and moving targets, he will almost certainly feel very high emotions, instinct and training can help but no amount of training can guarantee how he will act, especially if it’s his first time in a fire fight. Survival has a fair amount of luck involved. Psychopathic mental disease in its most acute form renders the sufferer incapable of feeling either hate or love, a very dangerous person who will react immediately without any thought of the consequences. Hatred? You eloquently delve its depths. Sorry if I make this personal, but good poetry should make us introspective. I've never hated anyone, and glad I am. I've been angry to the point of bustin' a blood vessel, but never to the point of hatred. If I'd suffered to the bounds of Auschwitz, maybe I'd hate. But hate is an emotion that devours the sufferer, not the object. |

Cari, There are those who the military and combat changed in a very negative way. Ironic how one can become a "loose cannon". I was married to one. ~L |

Redstart, You then are one who hates at a level of gnat swatting. We all have little hates-things we can't abide- that move us into who we are. Mostly without our awareness. ~L |

well hate is an emotion I believe we have control over.....as far as a gnat or fly, an annoying neighbor or co-worker for that matter ..I'm more annoyed, but hate, I don't choose to experience that emotion, I truly do think it's a choice..why let it be in your thought process..much less your emotional concience. |

I'm re-reading my reply also..just can't wrap my head around hate, but I have never been in the military or fought in a war..so I probably shouldn't have commented. |

yes you should have commented, I'm glad you did. I wanted people to examine their feelings on the hate spectrum. I would hope most people can't imagine hate in terms of killing. Yes I agree hate is a choice. ~L |
