The name is Fredrick Wheedle
The Rembrandt of the needle
Satisfaction is a must and guaranteed
I’m not in the Yellow Pages
Don’t bother to search for ages
You’ll find me over the Chip Shop in the Strand

My art work is well known
From Algiers to sunny Rome
Half way round the world and back again
In the Casaba there are Coolies
With illuminated Goolies
A credit to my care and expertise

From the docks of old New York
To the ports in County Cork
There are many of my treasured clientele
From inebriated sailors
To rough and ready whalers
I’m advertised across the seven seas

You’ll suffer no distress
As I decorate you’re flesh
If you take a tot of rum before I start
I’ve painted the high and mighty
and the dregs of our society
Recommended by the Beckham’s and the Queen

But if your sweethearts changed her name
You should’ve got insurance before you came
To rub it out and change it costs a bomb
So if I’ve stencilled Gorgeous Rita
When you’ve fell in love with Peter
Just because you were feeling rather gay
I’m sorry my old mate there isn’t a rebate
That’s an extra thousand quid you’ll have to pay

I was in high school when I had my first tattoo. It was . . . * P - A - T * Caught hell from my mother, but what could she do but beat me? . . . Which she did. Throughout the years I added more names. Paula, my first daughter. Marionette, Paula's mother. The other tattoo is Laura, a trashy, much too young thing I lived with in San Francisco. I have, on my back left shoulder an image of Mister McGoo walking with me. And . . . the last one is 34 1/2 on my left hand. Half of sixty-nine. Okay, I've covered them all. Maybe I should have left them all uncovered, but, you know . . .

Love this! Have 3 tats of my own and am contemplating a 4th ( If you are not aware of the meaning behind the semi-colon tattoo you might google it. I love the humor of this piece, it was a fun read! ~L

Your poetry is as much to the reader as  artistic ingenuity is to the "Tat Man". I found my way in other expressions and never felt the desire for ink. I see that your post has inspired some 'confessions' however, lending more credit to the quality of your work.

More feelings and fewer words please

Never been into tattoos myself and avoided tattooed ladies for dating, Couldn’t understand the need to spoil the bloom of youth by having tattoos etched on their skin.
But that’s just me, as I have said before; I’m a live and let live guy.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments on this fun piece

Cari.
