Recession

I set the fire
and now am eager
to cross this burning bridge.
Its scent is sweet,
and fills the heady air
with familiar illusions;
loads put down,
a temporary emptying,
one more symbolic separation.
Commitment never was my thing,
starter, in exciting times,
never finisher
and, as I recede,
I am again my baggage.

Somehow I relate to this.

~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~

This could be a poem on ending a relationship, i.e. burning the bridges behind you so you can move on. But I’m not sure. It could be equally on simply quitting a job to start a new career.
Whatever, I do share my lack of commitment with you, at least in my early years. I had various affairs in my youth, some would say too many. Dylan expressed my attitude perfectly in the song ‘It ain’t me Babe’
