my constant companion my shadow alert even in the dark warned me of the nighttime wind I heeded his warning for the wind shrieked hard and loud enough I sat straight up in bed then lay there sweating in the dark of night The Hovel was taking a beating the dread in my heart caused by the screeching wind made me think of fire swung my legs around stood peered out my window my shadow and I at the mean streets of Thibodaux still half asleep streetlights illuminated unsecured things tumbling along with the wind but no fire then . . . the wind stopped and an eerie quiet to an ordinary March night returned my shadow smiled I trudged back to bed he tucked me in ©March 20, 2016 / Jerry Pat Bolton |

Right..our shadows do not seem as frightening now that we know better than we did when we were kids, drawing monsters on the walls cast by shadows..how scary they still are to my grandson. |

You are so right, my friend. Storms can be vicious and we are completely unable to do one damn thing about it. Tornadoes, for instance. ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |
