Rain Bobbing umbrellas Puddle jumping kids Squeezing grass bubbles Under foot Crying chestnuts Weeping willows Pitter patter windows Metronome wind screens Grateful Daisies ~ Indifferent lovers Uncaring cattle Whinging oldsters Happy gardeners Brooding clouds Counterpane heavy Bequeathing succour On tombstone lichen Life clings to stony death ~ Pebble dashed ponds Shiny pavements Dripping gutters Carton boats sail Kerbstone rivers To oblivion down Gurgling drains And green, green grow England’s fields * * * If there’s one thing the English have unlimited knowledge on its rain. |

quote:Splendid poetry and your quoted comment was spot on. Though I've never been there, virtually every film set in England (or actually filmed there) seems to have its rainy scenes. More feelings and fewer words please |

Loved your take on England's rain, Cari. I love rain, and living in the subtropics of south Louisiana we get our fair share and then a bit more. Nice, crisp reading of your "Rain" poem. ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |

Thanks guys and girls for your kind comments on these snapshots of rain. The UK is a collection of small islands. To the west lies the Atlantic and the first stop is America. On the east is the North Sea and to the north is the bloody Arctic so our weather is changeable to say the least. It has its compensations however, if you want to see forty shades of green the UK is the place to visit. The countryside has inspired our poets, our artists, our writers and our music, though not the Rolling Stones methinks. The countryside has an air of nostalgic tranquillity, which in truth is amazing when you take in account of the blood that has been spilt over these green pastures over the centuries. Anyway that ends the Travel Poster, thanks again everyone. Cari. |
