The end of another day, not unlike many others we've closed, unique - in that - we've never had this one, before. I went to bed, later so did you . . . and later still - well, there are rituals even sleep doesn't ignore, but you, you died while I was away . . . You - Died! You were snoring when I got up! You were warm and viable - alive! But you died while I was away for just a minute - maybe two or three, but surely, not that long. And now, now I have to go on and grief is going to haunt me every time I arise in the middle of the night for a nightly ritual of which I have no control . . . because you died, while I was away, and now I have to go on afraid to go back to bed, because you died . . . while I was away. You. . . died. ~ ~ ~ Note: My brother-in-law died last night . . . in just this way. And this piece is about how I think I would feel, if it was my spouse . . . who died this way. © wesley james beard, jr. Wednesday - April 14, 2016 |

We all have known death. It's our curse to know its pangs and the subsequent grief. Life goes on until it doesn't anymore. Celebrate life and let death have its way with reserve. More feelings and fewer words please |

Very poignant write, dear Jimmy. Though we know that death can occur without any previous signals, it is still very difficult indeed to cope with the shock this provokes. This poem is a warm accompaniment for the soul of your brother in law on his way Home. Condolences to your family!
