I Was No Angel

I remember how much I loved you,
but I don't think I knew
how to love you;
you were so special,
I was so shallow
thinking only of myself,
until finally there was
no one else to think of,
as I found myself
alone with myself
and the realization
I was no angel.

I wrote this thinking about my old girlfriend
Nancy Daughters, who later became a successful
nurse and after she moved to Indiana she found
a special man that appreciated her according
to a mutual friend of hers.

James, you can't always get it right the first time.
Good writing!

I think it takes a lot of inner growth to come to that conclusion and then some kahunas to admit it.  Good for you! ~L

Perhaps dear Nancy was seeking stability at an early age.

More feelings and fewer words please

The wisdom and awareness you acquired after being left by that girl, serves you well now. In youth we rarely realize the consequences of our behavior ... it's the school of life.

Well said, dear James.

Love,
Margherita

thank you Marchmadness, Lori, Ari and Margherita for the nice responses.  Things like pride and foolishness, to name a few get in the way when you are young, and even longer if you don't wise up...james
