Fair to middlin' of nowhere

0 posted 2016-03-11 10:55 AM

As I reach for things
now and again,
I  can’t help but see
my hands and their aging skin.
The freckly spots and crepe texture
that always remind me
of just how mature
I really am.
It makes me smile inside
as I realize,
it goes to show
I’m growing old with him.
And I don’t have to hide
with serums and creams
those changes that come along.
He doesn’t see me like that,
he is the love of my dreams.

We should never mind the aging lines, they only show  you have lived life well, and those are the living proof.

I wish you more happy years with the love of your life, Lori.

We shouldn't you are right, but it is a billion dollar industry to keep those lines away...I have just never felt compelled to buy into all that or color my gray. ~L

Love this poem, and your happiness shows in every line.

Despite the ups and downs with my depression, I have a nugget that remains content with him. ~L

Dear Lori

He is looking at you thru the eyes of a poet.

My wife (of over 50 years) has the same types of thoughts that might be going through your mind..When I say I do not see the "flaws" as she calls them..
I answer her with a No!, I do not.

"I say...What I see is you at the age of 18, when we met..she sighs, and reluctantly accepts it as truth."

Sight can make one blind
So I use my heart as eyes
Which desolves all flaws

Ten years-thirty-fifty-Gone!
But your beauty stays the same.

Your poem inspires...
Felt I neeed to answer with a Tanka..

Hope you don't mind.

Peace to you, and the one you love.

"Poetry is an echo, asking a shadow to dance."

Lori, when things change this is the right road to go down....

Like in Valdy's song....

"The frost king has come and with a flick of his thumb,
Turned our windows to renaissance art.
As we sit round the fire with no need to inquire
About the ways of the soul and the heart.
The years passed us by like a soft whispered sigh,
Not noticing youth as it flew.
But it's easy to tell you wear your age well,
Not having to prove you're still you.

So let's dance that old dance once more,
We'll still move as smooth on the old ballroom floor,
I'll wear my Sunday best you wear your favorite dress
Lock up the door...........
Let's dance that old dance once more....

Good stuff Lori

Eric
