At first I felt happy she had a twinkle in her eye
As she sat down beside me she sure was lookin fine
Through the music's cluttered noise I could barely hear
The sensual suggestions she whispered in my ear.

Said her husband left her and she was on the loose
Said he always used her bad never told the truth
Somethin touched me inside some early warnin sign
But the swirling room her perfume clouded up my mind.

My senses were arrested
Locked up in a lie
In a canyon of abandon
I drifted out of line
But as we walked out slowly
From the crowded bar
The soft evening whispers
Sent a warning to my heart?

Well it musta been the whiskey that dulled my sense of right
Cos when I took another look she looked all wrong that night
And I could see a another scene quite clearly in my mind
A woman waitin home for me while I'm bowlin with the guys.

Well there's always somethin out there to steal a best bet
But it never seems to work out cos cheatin yields no rest.
So I said to her 'hey baby can't spare the hurt I'd breed
To satisfy a nighttime ride on the train to ill deceit

My senses were arrested
Locked up in a lie
In a canyon of abandon
I drifted out of line
But as I walked home slowly
Thinkin bout my home
The soft evening whispers
Brought peace to my soul.

I think the whiskey, this time , may have helped you make the right decision...usually doesn't happen that way..

"So I said to her 'hey baby can't spare the hurt I'd breed
To satisfy a nighttime ride on the train to ill deceit"

But anything can happen in a good poem/song.

always like your lyrics...

Thanks ice always appreciate the comments.
I think the whiskey was leading me down the wrong path but out in the cool air I came to my senses enough to assess the situation....

Have a good day and drop in anytime....

Ice is correct, whiskey  most always wins situations such as the one this song has proposed. I know from experience I lost the fight for right many, many more times than not. I liked this song, but it clearly wasn't one of those old country songs, it broke out new ground.

Hey Jerry, many times whiskey does rule the decision. I drank enough of the stuff to sink a battleship.
However, that doesn't mean a whiskey drinker can't still maintain a certain level of reasoning.
Person in this song wasn't flat out drunk but had quite a shine on and was tempted.
Flat out drunk steals the performance anyway.

I drank a quart of the stuff everyday of life for 20 years. Haven't drank like that in over 20 years but these days wonder why I'm still alive sometimes.
Most I have now days is couple glasses of wine or couple beer.

Whiskey could have won the guy in this song over but he caught himself......Might have been down that road before ya just never know........LOL!

Have a great day and I always appreciate your comments.

Do you know just how perfect the beat, the internal rhythm and flow are in this? I suspect you do, you always were one of the best darling man.

Dropped in to sip some delicious beauty and got some real quality. Your lyrics were always great, this is superb.

Love it muchly

Love and warm stuff as always

Mushy x x yes it really is me. X x

Tomorrow is another day I don't know what it holds
but I can face the future with courage brave and bold

Yes, in my experience both partners in a broken relationship exaggerate their ex partner’s faults to divert the blame away from their own shortcomings.

I listen, murmur yes and no’s, in the right places and walk away, because nothing I could say would be of any help to either partner.

Though I admit that such conversations are at the heart of TV soaps and repeated at weekly intervals, so I must be with the minority.

So,to use an old saying, you did well to avoid jumping from the frying pan into the fire.

Cari.

Thanks Cari and that's so true, two sides to every story and then there's the truth.
As imperfect humans we don't tend to look at ourselves in a bad light, always struggling for our own rights.

Even a man that's drunk can reason enough to recall what kind of trouble goes with those one night stands.

Just a guy out with the boys, having a beer after bowling but trouble lurks in those enviroments.....

I was glad to stay out of the fire.....lol
