Being alone is not so grim,
I do what I want on a whim,
There is no one to answer to,
Then why do I think about you.

Four walls seem closer than before,
They make me want to loudly roar,
But I find I temper my zeal,
There are times it's so hard to feel.

I peer through the mirror at me,
Wonder whose face it is I see,
I continue to look and stare,
That’s not me I solemnly swear.

I’m trying my best to be strong,
Sometimes I feel I don’t belong,
My aloofness hides my despair,
It’s almost more than I can bear.

I am losing the "who I am,"
To some long-lost spiritual scam,
I've given up on who I was,
To thunderous, vulgar applause.

I want to live, not ossify,
Recon back to a groovy guy.
I can, you know, but I’ve said that.
I shall, or my name isn’t Pat.

You can recon back to groovy if you want but that was 50 years ago...I think you are a better person today, having 50 years to grow on. As much as we'd like we can't live in the past, we only have today and what the past has made us. ~L

Oh, I am well aware of what you say, Lori, but just give a guy a little reminiscing. Thank you for your comment.

I know your older than I am but I like to hear what you say in your poems. I listen to what older people say because they know more and are willing to talk. Everyone should appreciate your words and conversation just like they want to be heard and listened too. You are such a good poet because of what you know and I like that alot!

If I were more than I am, I'd see things differently instead of the same all the time.

Thank you, DV. I'm just me, I calls 'um as I sees'em . . . I'm a little too rude and crude for some poets. I can live with that.
