The bayou is calm, it's at peace,
Green scum floats atop the water.
I think about my first daughter,
Is Paula alright or deceased?

I've not heard from her for awhile,
She's been through hell, she's been mauled,
And she's thought of ending it all,
Emails unanswered, that's her style.

It was last April that I'd heard,
I hear her say, "I'm just like you,"
And that, my friend, makes me so blue,
The last time she called her voice slurred.

She's been a wild child, she's been bad,
Put herself through college she did,
Two degrees then sunk low, my kid,
Trying to prove she's just like dad.

This really hurts, dear Jerry. If your daughter in a way walks the road you too walked, she will also heal as you healed. That could be a comforting thought. I am sorry for the pain you both endure, knowing how hard life's challenges can become. You have written words that tug at the heartstrings. I hope your kid will perceive your anxiety and get in touch soon.

In moments of peace send out all your love and mentally imagine your daughter receiving it and wrapping herself in it, feeling your warm presence and finding the support she needs to change things.

All my love and hugs.

The ache is palpable.  No, that doesn't explain it - it just plain HURTS -

Have know that pain a couple of times in my life - but not for many decades now.

My hear aches with yours, my fiend.

I wish you (and her - well.

Thanks go out to you, Margherita and Jimmy. That poem was written a few years ago. I didn't hear from her for a long, long time. Then I received an email around six months ago. She was living on the outskirts of Seattle, and was working for UPS . . . So in a way, she, like her dad seems to have landed on her feet. Don't know when she is going to begin using those two college degrees. Still, I am pleased to no end that she seems to be working toward the good at present.
