(This is a song I wrote as a Christmas gift to a dear fellow transgender friend of mine.............who, like me, understands how equally exhilarating and frightening it can be living openly as we are in our present world, and how even though I may only be a loose witness of his own experiences...............how fully supportive of him I am and cherish our empathetic bond!)

Loose Witness

.
.
Heading home,
but looks like nobody can join you tonight,
wisps of blue exhaust,
glare in front of every headlight,
and the force of your gaze has a weight,
how scary it can be caught up in a game...

...and have no idea of the rules,
and how it is played,
here's another mindbender,
on the turning away,
your maps are just accessories,
can't unchain these melodies,
asking...

...why are they concerned with specks of sawdust,
in their brothers' eyes,
programmed to hate themselves,
for how they feel inside,
even still sunlight weighs something,
in your shifting states of becoming...
.
.
.
Finally free from work,
waiting for the show to begin,
bank on a round of spanish coffee,
and some good conversation,
the play passes by quickly,
but we've been onstage since the beginning...

...and sometimes you wish,
you could erase the past,
when our minds cook up subtle syndromes,
and we cannot relax,
as our bodies continually transpose,
begging: "Don’t throw me,
out of the closet,
and into the streets alone!"

And we can only lie,
about who we are,
for so long,
without going crazy,
juggling these torch songs,
still we'll stay open forever,
evading these tourist traps together...
.
.
.
bodies and minds aren't tethered,
they don't always die together...
.
.
.
Still looking for high chairs,
finally free from work,
too much energy required,
with nothing in return,
so you subsist on morning mist,
bundled in careful compromises...

...you're not afraid to be confused,
because to love is to think,
measuring twice, cutting once,
is your means of housecleaning,
like a Julia Rabkin vertical ballet,
in a veneer of light sandstone gray...

...I may never know how we define,
the hunger to not be defined,
we're never quite ourselves,
but I've found presence of mind,
bearing each other loose witness,
in our visions and transitions...
.
.
.
...it may never be engraved,
in some historic courthouse space,
a five mile wide double rainbow,
on Crater Lake,
still we'll stay open forever,
evading these tourist traps together...
.
.
.
bodies and minds aren't tethered,
they don't always die together...
.
.
.
...but,
even when they're out of proportion with each other,
we've still got one another...
.
.
.

Dear Nadia, you have written a very poignant piece of poetry/song. Reciprocal support and love in such life changing times are of the utmost importance. You have a beautiful heart. The perfect harmony of body, heart and mind will be created with patience and time.

Love,
Margherita

You were the first to greet me many years ago here at Pip. I had another moniker at the time and so did you. It pleases me to know you have found happiness and a new confidence in your life.
quote:
"programmed to hate themselves,
for how they feel inside"
Many (including myself Nadia), have never had to struggle with these feelings. Some deal with what they are thinking, but having to adjust behaviors because of what one is feeling, is quite another matter for sure.

All the best to you and your friend.

She told me "play one for your supper Danny and maybe you'll get breakfast".

I was a bit put off with the name, Mistletoe Angel, but I’m glad I flicked on. A talented written Poem indeed, I love your conversationalist style. A rare find, thank you for posting.

Cari.

To thy own self be true, that's all that really matters.  You always write with clarity and a sound mind.

Be well good poet.
