I watch the sunbeam
beaming through the window
giving a glowing rectangle
sheathe across my desk
it is bright
narrow and in a straight line
I stop what I am doing
remove my hands from the keyboard
as I contemplate
the object of my fascination
I wonder what a philosopher would make
of this narrow bit of sunshine
would his thoughts
coincide with those of the poet
where a poet (me)
sees so many things the sunspot
represents
beauty and wonderment
taking it all in
and writing a rhyming poem about the sunspot
the philosopher would need to
take it apart atom by atom
to formulate a reason
why it has seemed to distance itself
from the father sun
when he dissects and questions
the rebel sunspot
by the time he has done all he can do
the strip of sun
has disappeared
never to be the same again
after been analyzed
which will frustrate the philosopher
but the poet has his poem
to relive the moment
at his whim

"I wonder what a philosopher would make"

I think you answered that desire very well in you "Sunspot" poetry.

Nice one, my friend.

quote:
"I wonder what a philosopher would make
of this narrow bit of sunshine"
The mechanical philosopher might take a straight edge, brace it directly parallel to the line of light and trace it on his desk exactly as it is before it can move again on its path to someone else's desk in some other part of the world.

Wonderful piece JerryPat. I'd say more, but I'm out of breath after a larger than needed
supper.

Take care my friend and here's a fist full of 88's for ya!

She told me "play one for your supper Danny and maybe you'll get breakfast".

You were blessed, dear Jerry, to allow the sunspot to stir your emotions. It's in these moments when we feel overwhelmed by the beauty surrounding (or visiting) us, that we experience the oneness with all there is.

Deeply enjoyed! Excellent rendering.

Ahhh . . . Yes, that would be what the philosopher would probably do after all, Ticklefingers . . .

Takes a pretty good poet to pull a poem out of a little shaft of light, my friend. ~L

I'm not a fanatic about it, and I'm certainly no philosopher, but I'd move my desk Mr. Bolton and enjoy the line on the floor. I could lay there mere inches away from it and pretend it was a razor-sharp pendulum about to sever me in half. Like I said though, I'm not a fanatic...

Here's to you and here's to me and should we ever disagree, here's to me!
