Fair to middlin' of nowhere

Up early anyway
though there is no turkey
to put in the oven this year.
We’ll be having our Thanksgiving dinner
with Mom and Dad
at the nursing home.

Sitting here with my coffee
in the sleeping quiet of the house,
I’m thankful not to be bustling
and hustling in the kitchen.
Instead, I’m excitedly looking forward
to having my children come to visit
if even for a few hours.

One of my sons and my daughter
will be coming in
from opposite ends of the state.
Weather permitting,
there is snow and ice coming out west.
My oldest brother came from Albuquerque
ahead of the storm.

I’m glad they’ll get to see their grandma,
she is fading so fast
since last they saw her.
I hope she is having a good day today
and for their sake recognizes everyone.
This will be the last year for such a gathering.
I am so thankful for today.

Yep, I know you are overjoyed to be able to take a break this Thanksgiving Day, Lori. I, also hope your mother will be having a "good" day.

When you're a family, you endure sufferings with many sighs, yet with a joyful spirit. A gift from the Ancient of Days we know as Love.

Best Wishes Miss Lori

Thanks everybody!
It was a great day! Mom was the most alert I've seen her in months and everybody made it here and back home again safe and sound.
The food was delicious.
Weather this morning is awful-sleet on top of ice. I have no plans to go anywhere. Even the cat and dog are refusing to go out. Well, they went as far as the front porch and turned around and came right back. It is 27 with a wind chill of God know what! ~L
