I've always believed people
when they say they hate me

They never have to prove it
...just say it

Love?

Now that's a different story

Anyone who would tell me they love me
would have to constantly prove it

Maybe that’s why no one does
I trust people who say they hate me implicitly

She told me "play one for your supper Danny and maybe you'll get breakfast".

Ahhh . . . You, my friend, have a very good point. I imagine more people are lying to you when they say they love you, than there are people who say they hate you.

From my experience love has different meanings or reasons to come out of their mouths....james

To say I began to write this piece facetiously would be true, but it didn't take long to come to the same realization as you JerryPat. One person in particular vowed "unconditional love". Unfortunately, that 'love' passed on 16 years ago.

I'm not crying and I have no salve or seeds to sell.

Don't get me wrong one and all. I believe in love as a God-given gift.
It's the 'Turks' bearing gifts I'm most concerned with.

Thank you James. I always enjoy hearing from you.

My thoughts are that words are sometimes meaningless.I need to "Feel" the love as shown more than I need the words. The old poem by Sara Teasdale

Simple though it is, reminds me of my belated husband. His "look" told it all.

Kevin kissed me in the Spring,
Robin in the Fall
But Colin only looked at me
and never kissed at all.
Kevin's kiss was lost in jest
Robin's lost in play
But the kiss in Colin's eyes
Haunts me night and day.

The negative is always stickier. You have to have self-esteem of Teflon to be immune. I believe it is human nature. That is why kindness is so very important and mean people suck. I think we are meant to love as long as we live but relationships can have expiration dates. ~L
