The following was inspired by the phrase "the dry side." I was feeling like my writing was in a dry side, however, what transpired here was about the dry side of our nation following the blue blood moon.

MORNING AFTER

from the dry side
brittle stems crack
parched leaves crumble
pock-marked soil
of a rain gone silent

yet
a turn around’s bound
to be found this morning
when dew clings the blades
delaying the mowing
till half-past sunrise

surely it was wise to stall
taking in leisure
a treasure of Sunday’s afternoon
waiting for the moon to glow
red on its way to bright

I drove to escape
the city lights of my
pseudo-metropolis
staring longingly and long
before the color found
its way into my vision

certain I’d seen the best of it
headed home for the rest
of it, finding standing
in my driveway was a better
perspective, checking back
now and then

to find later on
a bright blurred by
my need for a new
prescription, perhaps,
for almost a double moon
is seen

surely perigee
has no such definition
to be so much closer
to be twice itself

did this conjunction
prove a function toward
a moister clime
a chilliness short of a coat
of rime upon the lawn?

this morning after,
thirty-five degrees
greets the hour,
though we’re to move toward
a much greater mercury
here on this side of Earth.

Many good thoughts throughout your well-crafted poetry, some of which I could connect with straightaway.

Hope I'm around for a few more. Seems like I never see a blood moon twice from the same place.

Thanks, I'm guessing, piano player! For reading and taking time to comment. I think it's 33 years before there's a blood moon eclipse, but I think there may be a blood moon before that, don't recall what I've read in that regard.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.
