Giving In Please forgive me, Father, for I know just what I do... Lying down beside her knowing her love isn't true. But 'times it seems nothing will ever fill this empty space. Rather than face it alone, I'll accept my fall from grace. Shadows of gray creep closer as the years, they hasten by In wish I was the child staring through this old man's eyes. Endless ache of austerity, I cannot stand within. Sincerity, a ball and chain; my love, a charge of sin. As sightless eyes catch whisper of another, "I love you," Deception, ah, the only love that I've ever found true, Cuts at the cold and blackness, eyes watering to a touch... For just a moment may believe she needs me just as much. This road I'm on I recognize, I've seen these signs before. Knowing there's nothing left to give, I'll give a little more. Till once again she's gone and darkness eclipses the brain. Keeping her smile just a while, and smiling back through pain. Raising the chalice to my lips, I Give this toast to sin. A sacrificial, useless pawn; a game I cannot win. 'Tween sanity and sanctity, Your law chiseled in stone... Forgive me, Father, I can't take another night alone. Michael Anderson |

Intensely human and equally transcendental in a way, dear Michael. Exquisite wording! Margherita |

Michael, It always amazes me how you can write a poem with such pretty flowing rhymes and lyrical language so sweet to the ear, but the content is always raw, ripping from the gut emotion. You are a master of your words. They always leave me feeling you need one of these ~L |

The things we do to hear another's breath breaking the silence that smothers like death... When God seems absent and we need to live... surely He understands and will forgive! Raw, passionate and deeply moving. |

Reminds me of that song "Help Me Make It Through the Night." |

Yes James, that one and perhaps conversely Jimmy Dale Gilmore's, "Tonight I Think I'll Go Downtown". Splendid read Michael. 88's friend. She told me "play one for your supper Danny and maybe you'll get breakfast". |

Paula, just wow says a lot actually. Thank you for the read and the comment. Margherita, I thank you so much for the compliment. Transcendence is a good thing I hope. Lori, I appreciate the hug. Been away and without true friends for far too long. Maybe I post something smiley just cause I've missed this place. Ruth, not sure if God will forgive me if I haven't forgive myself. I appreciate your kind words, dear. Thank you. JamesMichael, Ticklefingers... you gave me two great songs to go listen too. I thank you both. Can never get enough good music. Michael |
