Fair to middlin' of nowhere

It is a common theme these days.
SPIRIT week at school, so I thought I’d participate.
I felt like going authentic
since I’ve got the garb to do it.

I dug out my T-shirt from 1980 that sez  SAVE THE TREES
and a hairdo from the same decade.
Then I found a pair of 15 year old pair of slacks from Penny’s
that miraculously still fit.
A pair of sandals, in navy blue from ’92, completes the ensemble.

But the piece de resistance of all that is old I wear,
is a ring a local artist made in the ‘70’s somewhere.
It is cast in silver, the size of a silver dollar roundish and full of holes.
It stretches from knuckle to knuckle on the finger it is worn
and spreads halfway across each finger on either side.
A big yellow topaz the size of a garbanzo bean
sits a little off center in this “conversation piece”
that must weigh nearly a quarter pound.

As the story goes, my Grandfather bought it.
He got for my Grandmother and he was a little drunk when he did.
One look at the ring and no one questions his sobriety at the time.
She must have accepted it graciously as she is gracious to the bone.
But, I never saw her wear this hunk of silver and yellow topaz stone.
It sat untouched in her jewelry box until the day it came to sit in mine.

It is Throwback Thursday and I am quite a sight to see.
Got on my old T-shirt and high-water pants
with my funky old sandals letting my toes wiggle at me.
And on my hand I’m wearing a bizarre piece of family history.
I may look goofy but I don’t mind,
my outfit is made of memories all mine.
