  The Ruins of
  Our Dreams

Under a bleak,
indifferent moon
the night wind
sings through
dry grasses
its  plaintive,
inexplicable
song of lost
love and Time
passing

Who walks
beside you
now in the
forbidden land
of your heart,
and that
nether-world
beyond  my
last horizon?

Only my shadow
rises to meet me
in the dust of
this empty
place, this
unforgiving
space
between
the spaces
of a life
stifling
without
purpose

Here, there is only
the dull-relentless,
hollow tick of the
judgment clock
amid candles crying
  silent tears
for all the dead
   undead
wandering forever
the ruins of
their dreams
